The Grimming holds the last of the sun long after the valley has let it go. We ate outside and watched the light climb the rock until there was none left.
Notes from the house
One photograph and a line or two, whenever the valley does something worth writing down. Not often. That's rather the point.
The whole sky went this colour for ten minutes, then nothing. Nobody said much. The hay smell comes up strongest just after the heat goes.
Haze in the valley until ten, then the Grimming all at once. The guests before you left the door open all week. Wise.
The last snow went from the north field on Tuesday. Down in Bad Aussee the daffodils are getting their festival ready.
Fresh snow overnight, then this. The mist came off the forest until noon and nobody made it past the gate. Nobody minded.
Last light on the Grimming, the moon already up, the last chairs going down empty. Ten minutes, start to finish. Worth the cold.
Snow to the terrace rail again. We measured against the shutter: past the heart. The sledges have not been dry in a month.
First guests of the winter arrive tonight, on the late train from Vienna. The fire is laid. The bread is on the counter.
